Erika Firm, daughter of an industrial engineer and a commercial artist, has been creating since she was a tot. She was probably the only kid on the block to have, at age five, her own x-acto knife and t-square. Her first design job: the playbill for her fifth grade class production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Inspirations: the fabulous: McCarthy and Wharton novels, The Whitney Museum; the natural: sand sluiced by a lazy wave; and the mundane: Krispy Kreme sugar packets. She loves paper, the written word, all shades of green, the sound of the surf, crepes, café au lait, weddings and the smell of the pressroom. She has a passion for letterpress and for good design, no matter the medium.
Erika earned Bachelors of Science in Journalism and in French from Ohio University; she earned a Master of Mass Communication from The University of Georgia. She has worked in the magazine, newspaper and dotcom industries, as well as at a design studio, and at a lovely independent literary bookshop.
All along the way, however, she was designing cards and invitations for friends and family. It turned into a full time business after a late night of champagne toasts (and, let’s be honest here, tequila shots) at her cousin Sarah’s sublime seaside wedding in 2003. She announced she was starting a stationery business and jumped right in ... to the Florida Bay. Erika is proud to be a wife, mother, entrepreneur, designer and member of AIGA.
